Dear Environment California supporter, The aerospace, fireworks and road flare industries have contaminated drinking water sources for millions of California homes with perchlorate, a dangerous toxin. As a result, the public health of millions of Californians may be threatened, and millions more refuse to drink water from the tap. But now, polluters want to delay and weaken long-overdue limits on these toxics in our drinking water. Please take a moment to sign a clean water pledge; we'll use these signatures to demonstrate public support to legislators. Then ask your family and friends to help by forwarding this e-mail to them. This poison is pouring into the Colorado River from a giant Kerr-McGee industrial plant in Nevada, and is present at levels that can impair fetal development in ways that decrease IQ and cause attention deficit disorder. Perchlorate contamination from other industrial facilities also threatens over 300 additional drinking water sources throughout the state. Companies such as Lockheed Martin, Kerr-McGee and Aerojet are working hard to prevent state officials from imposing a California limit on perchlorate in drinking water by launching lawsuits against government agencies to delay the process.
